18. What invention would the world be better off without, and why? (Kalamazoo)
FACEBOOK! My life revolves around Facebook. It's hard for me to log out once I signed in. There is always so much to do on Facebook, not to forget stalking people’s profiles, chatting with friends back home and playing fun games. Not one day passes without me logging on Facebook. It's hard for me to not use Facebook.
At this point in my life, if Facebook wasn't invented I would do more in life rather than always sitting in front of a screen chatting. Living a teenage life without Facebook to me sounds scary. If Facebook wasn't invented I would end up studying more. The amount of time that I give on Facebook everyday can be spent more wisely on something else which is much more productive.
People tend to use social networking sites as a replacement for real human interaction. I believe that the more you talk to someone on Facebook, the less likely you are to hang out with them in real life. Since the day I started using Facebook I have realized that I literally live inside my laptop.
There are information field on Facebook that could potentially make it easier for people to stalk you if you aren’t careful. These fields include your email, phone number, and address. You can hide these from certain users or not enter them at all, but many people probably enter that info without thinking, making available to anyone on their friends list. Earlier this year a stranger hacked into my account and changed my privacy and account settings. Facebook can be very revealing about you.
Overall, I think that the world would be better without Facebook. Facebook can be really big distraction, especially when students like me who are loaded with essays and other projects. However, I wouldn’t be able to imagine myself without Facebook— I would probably end up being a nerd.
