College Essay #15 - Outrage

124) What outrages you? (Wake Forest)

·        India’s poverty line: There are countless number of slum areas in India. More than half of India’s population is under the poverty line.
·        Uttar Pradesh having a corrupt government: Mayawati, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh had built statues of herself all over Lucknow. Through this she spent excessive amount of cash which she promised to use for the Dalits (Lower Class).
·        Name change for my hometown: Hyderabad which is the capital city Andhra Pradesh situated in South India, has been going through turmoil as the government is fighting over the change of the state’s name. They want Andhra Pradesh to now be known as Telangana. It has been over few months of continuous and riots however; the government has still not come to a conclusion.
·        Studying in Woodstock I have noticed that while walking to Buzaar (market place) during weekends, there are a lot of poor people living in plastic tents. Seeing them, living such a hard life outrages me. I wonder how they survive during winters since I myself am cuddled up in two fat and cozy quilts yet still feeling extremely cold.
·        The excessive amount of pollution caused by people, cars, and factories in India and the world. In china there is pollution everywhere. I had a conversation with a person who had just visited China, and he said, “In the morning while I was driving to work, I thought that there was a lot of fog in the air but later found out that it was the cars in front of me that let out pollution in the atmosphere giving a misty look outside.” In India people on the scooters are now required to cover their nose and mouth due to the massive amount of pollution.
These are just a few things that outrage me. There are some personal issues that get me agitated as well. However, these are the ones that click to my mind.
