College Essay #3 - Spend a Day as you Wish

46. If you had a day to spend as you wish, how would you use your time? (Carleton College)

If life gave me a chance to decide one day for myself then I would probably go all over the place trying to do everything I possibly can. However after colleting my thoughts I finally decided that one place that I feel is calling for me is Nagaland. Nagaland, the land of tribes; is a state in the far North East region of India. The north- east region of India is divided into seven states which are called the seven sisters and Nagaland is a part of the seven sisters.

I would like to spend time in the hilly regions of Nagaland with my friends. I would first want to go to the Japfu Peak, since this peak is known to have one of the most breathtakingly and enchanting views of the Himalayan peaks, beyond the sprawling Kohima. As the sun descends, making its way into the Dzukou valley, it creates a pattern made by its reflection. It is one of the most beautiful places as it uninhabited by humans and taken over by the nature. It is the valley where dreams are made and it is where I want to wish that all my dreams come true. This valley is so pretty that from the month of June to September, the entire valley is a carpet of flowers where the lilies turn white and yellow during the month of July and there are aconitums blossoming.

Nagaland is known for its exquisite cuisine. Therefore I would like to go and eat the exotic meat flavors offered with the other common dishes, such as fermented bamboo shoots with fish or pork. All their food is eaten with one staple dish and that is rice which in Nagamese is known as “Bhaat”.

I want to start my day with a breathtaking view of the peaks of Japfu and experience the enthralling view of the Dzukou valley. Finally end the day with a relaxing atmosphere, by laying down in my backyard, on the soft grass watching the stars shine for us.
